Regional Fishery Management Councils

Eight regional fishery management councils were established under P.L. 94-265, approved April 13, 1973, best known as the Magnuson-Stevens Act or Sustainable Fisheries Act, amended in 1996.  These councils were created for the conservation and orderly utilization of the fishery resources of the United States of America.

 

New England Fishery Management Council 

The New England Fishery Management Council manages fisheries in federal waters off the coasts of Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut.
