Fishery Management Councils

Eight regional fishery management councils were established under
P.L. 94-265, approved April 13, 1973, best known as the
Magnuson-Stevens Act or Sustainable Fisheries Act, amended in
1996. These councils were created for the conservation and
orderly utilization of the fishery resources of the United States of
America.
